Pesaro beaches: which one to choose and how to get there from the historic centre

Updated 13 October 2026. Pesaro's coastline is split by the port into two stretches, Ponente and Levante, with the free beach of Sottomonte and the coves of Monte San Bartolo as extras. Staying at Nuovo Fiore (Via Barignani 60) the sea is 800 metres away: here is how to pick the right beach.

Levante or Ponente?

According to tourist guides the coastline is divided by the port into Ponente (west) and Levante (east). Levante is described as the stretch closest to the centre, with fine sand and very shallow water, and is often recommended for families with small children. Ponente is the larger and livelier area, with more sports activities and the Baia Flaminia zone, and it is also home to Arnaldo Pomodoro's "Palla" sculpture in Piazzale della Libertà (source: Spiagge.it, in Italian). From Nuovo Fiore, Ponente beach is about 800 m away and Levante beach about 900 m.

Free beaches

The most frequently mentioned free beaches are at the southern end of Viale Trieste, in the Sottomonte stretch, and in the Baia Flaminia area. Sottomonte is described as a local favourite for a quieter, more natural day. Conditions and services of each stretch change from season to season, so check hours and rules on the municipality's website before you go.

The San Bartolo coves

For a wilder experience, the Monte San Bartolo Natural Park has coves such as Fiorenzuola di Focara and Vallugola, often less crowded but reached on foot with a short walk. Bring water and suitable shoes and check the path conditions.

How to get there from the historic centre

On foot the distance from the centre to the main beaches is minimal: from Nuovo Fiore it takes a few minutes. With the apartment's free bikes you can reach the seafront and the city's cycle paths: you will find recommended rides in the cycling in Pesaro guide.
